Traditionally we’re told August is quiet for patchwork and quilting, people on their holibobs and for some reason quilters tend to be keen gardeners (not me! my garden is a wildlife paradise!) and so August is a busy time in the garden. Not so at The Corner Patch, we seem to be just as busy as usual.
Although there are no formal classes – we give Chris a well earned rest (she’s a keen gardener, so she’s very busy!) We have our little stitchers coming to learn to sew on a Wednesday, we’re already into week 3 and this week we got the girls making ‘Drawstring bags’ They did really well and seem to be enjoying the classes…
It also happened to be teacher Tracy’s birthday so we had cake – which you can imagine went down very well.
Jessica popped in on Saturday and because there was only her she was able to make a zipped pouch as well as her drawstring bag.
I’ve also been teaching my ‘Absolute beginner’ quilters. Stephanie was at the layering stage and so next time we will start quilting. Sally has added her sashing, I love how using the dark purple really makes the centre square ‘pop’. Trudi has put her binding on and now has the task of hand sewing it down and then it’s finish, she’s going to gift it to her God daughter if she can bear to part with it !
Lyn has made her ‘Absolute beginner’ quilt and is now mastering ‘half-square triangles’ and ‘flying geese’ and making the ‘Boxed Star’ tablerunner, it requires some concentration at this stage, as it’s quite easy to get your pieces upside down and inside out, but Lyn patiently pinned and checked and double checked and we got there.
Ashley ‘borrowed’ the tables to lay her quilt out and trim the ‘crusts’ off ready to bind. It’s a gorgeous quilt she has made using a Moda layer cake and the quilting is beautiful, this is Ashley’s second quilt – I’m very impressed.
Next weeks diary looks just as busy, I need to find some time to make samples with the gorgeous fabrics that keep arriving. No rest for the wicked !
Until next time, Happy sewing X
